Thursday, 12/11: Complete Step 1 of "the project." And, now it's your turn. You've read the masters of old and sampled the best of what's current. Now, it's time for you to sharpen your imaginative skills. Click here for the step by step directions to producing your own story.
Friday: worked on Step 2, creating a problem and a timeline; created writing groups.
Monday, 12/15: Began--Step 3. Began drafting.
Tuesday: Continue drafting.
Wednesday: Complete a draft.
Thursday: Peer reading.
Friday: Drafting and editing.
Tuesday, January 6: Work on drafting and editing. Prepare to publish.
Wednesday: Mr. Lipe not here. Complete draft. Publish
Thursday: Choose best story. Stories due at the start of class. Grading criteria: originality, clarity, conventions. Minimum of 700 words.
Friday: Selected finalists.
Monday, 1/12: Chose the Grand Champion.
Tuesday: Assigned the final, which is worth 1/9 of your grade.
First, go back and read your answers to the Pre-Test you were given at the beginning of the semester.
Then, answer one of the following questions in the form of a formal, MLA-style, one-page (250-350 words). What did you learn about sci-fi? How have your opinions about sci-fi changed? What did you learn about art? Which skills did you most develop? For the final exam, you will publish your essay on schoology.
Then, on the day of the final, you will read your essay in a small group and talk about it. 1/2 your final exam grade is for the writing; the other half is for the discussion.
Writing rubric: focus, organization, support, conventions. Discussion rubric: energy, manners, skill.
Wednesday: Final Exam, second half of the day.
