The Civil War

For extra credit, watch the film 12 Years a Slave or Harriet, and write a paragraph about what you learned. Up to 10 points of extra credit may be earned. This must be completed before spring break begins. You can only do one of the films. 

Friday, 1/31 : Assign Poem #2: Due 2/20: can be a narrative, an ode, apostrophe, a cut up, surrealism, a response to another poem; 1. Must be 15 lines (or be multiple poems); 2. Must incorporate 5 different devices.  3. Must do 3 drafts. 4. Must be best written thus far.

 

Watch two brief videos on Frederick Douglass: This one Frederick Douglass.  and this one. List 10 things total you learned from watching the two films; assignment on schoology.

Monday, 2/3: Assigned first 7  Frederick Douglass  excerpts by tomorrow. 

Tuesday: Took a quiz on first 7 excerpts. Kids who missed the quiz should complete the alternate assignment on schoology. Then, we continued reading and summarizing FD excerpts. Be through 14 by Wednesday.   

Wednesday: continued reading and summarizing FD. Completed by tomorrow.

 

Thursday: Assigned Frederick Douglass study questions. Then, informal discussion after lunch. Then, begin taking 20 Cornell Notes on 4 Films. Video #1: Cite as CBS: Harriet Tubman's road to freedom
