Monday, 3/4: Quiz on chapters 8-9. The makeup is a formal paragraph answering the following question: so far, which word best describes Huck? Submit on schoology. 

Tuesday: Counselors speak to class about many things.

 

Wednesday: Begin book groups to discuss HF: form groups, choose a reporter, answer then answer, what are the main plot points, which paragraph deserves re-reading, what questions do you have, what will happen next?

 

Thursday: Students met w/ book groups. Then, read.

 

Friday: Discussed the dolphin and the fog, and we watched a rap song.  Then, read.

 

 

Monday, 3/11: Group book study and then read.

Tuesday: Quiz (6th hour only). The makeup is a formal paragraph answering the following question: whom do the Grangerfords and Shepherdsons represent? Submit on schoology.

 

Wednesday: Group talk, then read.

Thursday: Book talk then read.

Friday: Assigned films for extra credit: 10-20 points. + another ten if it's picked for the film festival, the Eddies. Then, book talk, then read.

 

Monday, 3/18: Showed a sample film, met w/ book groups, then read.

Tuesday: watched another sample film, then book groups.

Wed-Friday: book groups, then read.

Tuesday, 4/2: Book groups to discuss the ending of the novel, and the most a few questions which include: what was the most important theme regarding? which are the most common symbols? Is this a great novel? What's the best part? Then, assigned a letter inspired by the novel--due tomorrow. 

Wednesday: choose best letter. 

Thursday: Began studying ZNH by watching the first 22 minutes of this film.  

Friday: Continue watching the film; kids can take notes on paper for a possible quiz on Monday. 

Monday, 4/8: students completed a new SAT practice test to prepare for tomorrow. 

Tuesday:  Students read for 1/2 hour to see how far they get. Then, assigned the first 2 chapters of  Their Eyes Were Watching God  for tomorrow. If you're struggling with comprehension, try reading these Sparknotes before and/or after you read.

Tuesday:  Book groups then read. Extra Credit Opportunity: "I hope you’re all having an excellent week so far. As you probably know, it’s National Poetry Month, so we’re hosting another Poetry Open Mic for grades 6-12 at the library next Thursday, April 25 beginning at 6:30pm. We would love to have your students attend and share some poems at the microphone. It’s one of our favorite events – you never know what will be read! We’ve heard original, lyrical poems, excellent readings of works..." 

Wednesday: quiz; the makeup is a formal one-page essay on the most important theme through the first 9 chapters of the novel, and then read.

Thursday: Guest speaker, Real Estate Agent, Jeb Blasingame.

Friday: Read.

Thursday: Quiz on Chapter 19. The makeup is a one-page, formal essay on the most important theme of the book. 

Monday, 4/29: Book groups. Then, group test on novel. The makeup for kids who aren't here is a one-page essay comparing Huck Finn to Their Eyes Were Watching God. Specifically, you must answer the question: which of these novels is more important for high school kids to read? The makeup is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

Tuesday: Assigned a letter inspired by Their Eyes...due tomorrow at the start of class.

Wednesday: Choose the best letter.

Friday: Art Day. On one sheet of typing paper provided by me, students will illustrate one scene from either novel. On the illustration, you must include the name of the novel and the writer's name. Illustration must be school appropriate. Illustration is due Monday.

Monday,: Test on novel ending? Then, choose the best illustration. Then, assigned letter inspired by the novel. Due tomorrow.
