Native Americans

Extra credit assignment: go to Cahokia Mounds. You can earn 10 points if you climb Monk's Mound; you can earn 15 if you visit the museum. You must send me a photo of yourself to earn the credit. 

 

Wednesday, 8/31: 6th hour began watching 500 Nations; must have 10 notes on schoology.

Thursday, 9/1: Discussed the pretest:

 

  Native American Week Pretest. (On schoology)

Then, began or continued watching 500 Nations: Assigned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPUTLHWVY34&t=741s.

Friday: Day 2 or 3 of the film. Take 10 more notes; total of 20 or 30 depending on the class. 5th hour should have 20 by Tuesday; 6th hour should have 30.

 

Tuesday, September 5:   Brief discussion of film. Went over class policies. Assigned the ""The World on the Turtle's Back"--reading and questions on schoology. 

Wednesday: Quiz on "The World on the Turtle's Back." 

Thursday: Assigned questions on Native American Poetry, due Monday. Questions on schoology.

Friday: Completed working on poems. 

Monday, 9/11: Graded Discussion on NA Poetry. The makeup is a formal paragraph answering the following question: what can you tell about Native Americans from reading these three poems? Submit this on the Graded Discussion assignment on schoology. 

Tuesday: take the Panorama survey. Brainstormed questions for entrepeneur/rental property investor Farris Gosea. Then, assigned questions on  "The Iroquois Constitution." There's a link at the top of this page to that. The questions are on schoology. 

Wednesday: Guest speaker, Farris Gosea. 

Thursday: Brief discussion of the Iroquois Constitution. Then, assigned a letter to Farris, our guest speaker from yesterday. You can also Click here for directions on how to write that letter. 

Friday: Illustrate a scene(s) from any of the Native American literature we have read.  The drawing MUST include the title of the work, the name of the people who wrote it, and a quote. Due Monday; extra credit for the best. Bring Your Own Crayons; I have paper. You may do CAD, but you must print out. 

Monday, 9/18:  Choose the best drawing. Then: Click Here to read Seattle's "letter." Then, read what he actually said here: : http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/chiefsea.html. Then, complete the "Chief Seattle" assignment on schoology. 

Tuesday: brief discussion of Chief Seattle's "letter" and actual speech.

Wednesday: choose best letter. Then, switch to the next unit.
