Pumpkin spice lattes and smoothies are in the air, and postseason tennis is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing: autumn has arrived (not that it feels like it). The EHS girls welcomed the change with a solid performance at the Southern Illinois Duals, defeating Quincy 8-1 Friday night, before sweeping both University High (Normal) and Triad 9-0 Saturday.
Friday was Senior Night, and the Tigers honored five members of the class of 2020: Hayley Earnhart, Gabby Regalado, Izzy Sitki, Julie LeBailly, and Amanda Wickman. Best of luck in your future endeavors, girls, and thanks for all your hard work and dedication!
The tournament capped by far the busiest two weeks of the girls' schedule. Two weeks ago, the Tigers downed SWC foes Belleville West and Belleville East by identical scores of 8-1. They then traveled north to participate in the Lyons Township Quad. In an extended dual match, the Tigers tied with Lyons Township 6-6. The girls then dropped a tough 0-5 match to perennial Chicago powerhouse Hinsdale Central, before coming up just short 2-3 against Neuqua Valley.
This past week, the girls split squads twice, defeating Collinsville and Waterloo both 9-0 on Tuesday, and then adding 9-0 wins over Highland and Mascoutah on Thursday. The split squads allowed more girls a chance to earn varsity experience.
EHS now moves into its last week of regular season play, traveling to John Burroughs on Tuesday and then north to the Lockport Invitational Oct. 4-5. Next week features the Southwestern Conference JV tournament on Monday, Oct. 7, at EHS, and the SWC Varsity tournament Oct. 11-12, also at home.
Three ETA boys competed this past weekend in the Level 4 District Championship tournament in St. Louis. In his last tournament in the 12s division, Jesse Hattrup exited in style, winning both the Boys' 12 Singles and Doubles. Jesse now looks to make his mark on the 14s division.
In the 14s, Colton Hulme entered the tournament as the no. 6 seed. After falling in the round of 16, Colton advanced to the semifinals of the backdraw, before falling to the eventual backdrop champion. Jade Dynamic also played in the Boys 14s Division.
All three ETA JTT teams were victorious this weekend.
