Sept. 16 Roundup: Tigers Defeat O'Fallon; Hattrup and Hulme Stay Hot

Last Thursday, the EHS girls’ team triumphed over a tough O’Fallon team 6-3 in their third Southwestern Conference match of the year, taking wins at 2 and 3 doubles, and 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles in a great performance by the bottom of the lineup.

The Tigers remain undefeated atop the conference standings with two tough matches this week against Belleville West (Tuesday) and Belleville East (Thursday), both at home. We’ll see the Panthers again at the SWC tournament, and it’ll be a tough one there too as well—a good team, and well coached.

On Saturday, the girls traveled to Columbia (Mo.) for the Columbia Duals, hosted by 4-time Missouri state champion Rock Bridge. The Tigers defeated Jefferson City 7-2 in the morning, a win highlighted by Hannah Colbert and Chloe Koons’ 8-0 win at 1 doubles. In the afternoon, the Tigers fell to a talented Rock Bridge squad 8-1 despite great play and effort up and down the lineup. Grace Hackett and Chloe Trimpe took home the win at 2 doubles for EHS’s lone point.

This weekend, Edwardsville travels north again to face perennial Chicago powers, playing Highland Park Friday afternoon, followed by dual matches Saturday against Lyons Township and Hinsdale Central. It’ll be a great test for the girls, as they continue to play a tough schedule to be ready for the end of the year.

Jesse Hattrup won the doubles title in the BG 12 Compass Draw East, a tournament that drew players from all over the Missouri Valley! In singles, Jesse lost to the no. 1 seed and eventual champion in the quarterfinals, playing him the closest anyone did the entire tournament. Jesse then won out in the backdraw, taking 5thin singles. Jesse is currently ranked 41stin the Missouri Valley, a ranking which should improve after his results. Congratulations to Jesse on an awesome weekend!

Colton Hulme traveled to Kansas City to compete in the MV Level 5 Homestead Open. Colton lost in the semifinals to the tournament’s champion, and won the 3rdplace match for a great finish. Colton is now ranked a career high 47thin the Missouri Valley. Congrats Colton!

All ETA teams opened JTT play this weekend. The 18u Advanced team fell to a tough group from Missouri Athletic Club Saturday night. The 12u team defeated a team from Creve Coeur Racket Club, while the 10u team narrowly lost to another CCRC team.
