Updated: May 25, 2021

Schoooooooooool’s out for summer!

Last Thursday, the Tigers swept Belleville West 9-0 to complete an undefeated SWC season. Over the weekend, the boys travelled north for the Naper Valley Invitational, held as a quad due to COVID this year. The individual highlight of the year was Colton Hulme, who went 4-0 at no. 1 singles with multiple great wins.

On Friday, the Tigers faced off against Naperville North, dropping a match 2-3, with wins at no. 1 singles and no. 1 doubles. Trailing 6-8 in a super tiebreaker, Colton dug deep to win four straight, including a fantastic passing shot at 8all. The boys rebounded against St. Charles North, with four relatively straightforward wins, and Colton winning a great 7-5, 7-5 match at no. 1.

On Saturday, the boys took on tournament co-hosts Oswego East and won 4-1. Michael and Jade easily prevailed at no. 1 doubles, with Colton winning 6-3, 6-3 at no. 1 singles. Ben and Sam won 6-0, 6-0 at no. 3 doubles, and Jace and Adrian won 6-1, 6-3 at no. 2.

The final match was against tournament host Benet, and EHS again won 4-1. The closest match of the day came at no. 1 doubles, where Michael and Jade won 6-4, 5-7, 10-5, after trailing 2-5 in the third set tiebreaker. It was a great comeback and competitive effort! The Tigers will finish the year with a 19-5 dual match record.

This coming week, the SWC tournament takes place Thursday and Friday morning in O’Fallon, with doubles on Thursday and singles on Friday. The Tigers hold no. 1 seeds in most flights; the tournament, which is points-based on individual entries, will determine the SWC title.

The spring JTT season wound up on Sunday, with ETA teams taking home league titles in 12u Green Ball and 18u Girls Advanced. This means that out of 5 JTT leagues, ETA teams won 3. Great job, kids, and massive congratulations to everyone who played JTT this spring!
